Things are not going too well for FC Barcelona both on and off the pitch as they have already been knocked out of two competitions — Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey — and head coach Xavi Hernandez has confirmed that he will quit once the season ends.
Barca are 10 points behind league leaders Real Madrid in La Liga and they will face Napoli in the Champions League knockout stage. The Blaugrana are only alive in two competitions and a trophyless season remains a big possibility.
Meanwhile, a reliable news outlet from England, The Athletic, reported that star defender Ronald Araujo was willing to leave during the January transfer window when Bayern Munich showed interest in the Uruguayan.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will once again come for Araujo in the summer transfer window and the report claimed that the 24-year-old wouldn’t be showing any resistance to a move to the Bavarian club.
Xavi, who announced that he would leave after the current season ends, earlier threatened the club that he would quit immediately if Araujo is sold.
With Xavi going in June, Araujo may as well start thinking about his future which, at this moment, seems to be outside of Barcelona.
Araujo is considered Barcelona’s best defender, but the Uruguayan’s form has declined massively ever since the news of Bayern’s interest. The centre-back is also playing through knee pain, which could also be a reason behind a dip in form.
It is worth mentioning that Araujo had earlier debunked all the rumours stating that he is committed to Barcelona, but while addressing the press, he didn’t deny any contact with Bayern Munich.
